Wikipedia, the famous free encyclopaedia, is planning an action to include more content about cannabis in April. The initiative has been organised by WikiProject Cannabis, a WikiProject dedicated to improve the coverage of cannabis at the online encyclopaedia.
According to Wikipedia, “some editors have expressed interest in organising a 420 collaboration from Saturday, April 15 to Sunday, April 30, and particularly on April 20, 2017”.
There is a reason for this date. 420 (four-twenty) is the code-term used in the USA to refer to the consumption of cannabis. “Especially smoking cannabis around 4:20 AM/PM and smoking and celebrating cannabis on April 20 (which is 4/20 in the US form)”, Wikipedia explained.
The purpose of the collaboration is to include articles relating to hemp and marijuana legislation from around the world, including: effects, policies, trends, activists, organisations, culture, health, medicine, agriculture and women and cannabis. Are you an expert on any of these topics?
“We seek the inclusion of neutral, appropriately sourced facts. We want Wikipedia to have accurate, reliable information about cannabis, just like we want there to be trustworthy content about battleships, fungi, and your favourite episode of The Simpsons”, said Wikipedia
Anyone interested in supporting the initiative can add their signature here and contribute to the ongoing discussions. It is not necessary to be in favour of cannabis legalisation, feel free to edit an article about the negative effects of smoking or anti-drug programs.
Wikipedia & cannabis
If you have never edited a page, the Wikipedia team can help you with their policies and guidelines. They have many resources and a list of suggestions of articles that need writing. Called “red-links”, these are pages have not yet been created, such as “Cannabis in Angola”, “Cannabis in Burkina Faso”, “Hemp Cheese” or “Opium Act”.
If you would like to add, edit or expand information about cannabis, join WikiProject Cannabis.
