Instagram is the social network of the moment. Through it, just like Twitter and Facebook in their day, we can find fascinating stories from fans that capture our attention. We’ve selected a few from the world of cannabis to show you some projects and life stories that their creators choose to show us through this medium.
The vaping god
Austin Lawrence is only 22 years old and has almost two million followers on Instagram. He defines himself as an enthusiastic vaper, but in the cannabis world he is known as the vaping god. And the name is well deserved, he is a real magician performing all kinds of visual juggling tricks. This genius of smoke forms many figures using his mouth, his hands and his nose: double loops, multiple spheres, flying saucers … even a circle that he can guide with his hand, like a Dragon Ball wave. This curious hobby of his began when he stopped smoking tobacco and changed cigarettes for a vaporizer. Through his Instagram account, @vaustinl, we can watch as he shows us tricks with all kinds of paraphernalia.
Lawrence is co-owner of Vertigo Vaporium. Since he started vaping, he has spent three or four hours a day playing and creating figures with smoke. But the vaping god´s following has not grown so quickly because of his tricks or business, but because rap singer Drake posted a video on his Instagram account with more than 4 million followers. The Canadian composer confessed that he knew nothing about this world and paid for him to visit his mansion and teach him some tricks.
The newspaper designed especially for the cannabis community
The cannabis community is increasingly opening up to more professional areas, so the folks at Goldleaf thought it would be interesting to offer a set of unique tools and decoration options for just such people. In 2016, its creators began to search the market for well-made notebooks or record books that would cover the needs of the cannabis community. And when they didn’t find anything decent, they decided to create their own brand. They began interviewing growers, producers … and created their first edition Grow Journals. These are characterized by being extremely practical, aesthetic and made of quality and sustainable materials.
In the store we can find many different types of notebooks. The Patient Journal is specifically designed for patients who use medicinal cannabis. In it patients can specify important variables such as what type of strain they are using, its potency and the reaction they have to it. “We developed the patient’s diary to empower patients by providing them with the tools to accurately record all the important factors in their therapy,” they explain on their website. We also found The Grow Planner, for home cannabis growers; The Cannabis Taster, a pocket newspaper for consumers of the plant; and The Blank Journal, for those who prefer free writing. Their Instagram community consists of 11,400 followers and specialized media from around the world such as Herb, High Times, Rolling Stones and Culture Magazine have written about the project.
Broccoli mag, the international magazine for women who love cannabis
On Instagram it has more than 30,000 followers. Broccoli Mag draws the attention for its cutting edge aesthetic and the variety of topics covered by the medium: fashion, film, music, health, literature, civil rights and many more. “Broccoli is the international magazine created by and for women who love cannabis “, we read on their website. “Explore and shape modern stoner culture by viewing cannabis through a global lens of art, culture and fashion,” they continue. “Broccoli gives cannabis a new, modern and elegant form”.
A clinic for cats, a cultivator turned creative who writes about the future of women in cannabis, an interview with the granddaughter of Rita and Bob Marley … The diversity of their themes is down to their interest in covering other voices that are not normally represented in the conventional media. Broccoli Mag has its headquarters in Portland and Berlin and is released three times a year. It ships worldwide, so you have no excuse for not getting involved.
